The movie "Footloose" was inspired by events in Elmore City, Oklahoma.
See, until the 1980s, dancing was illegal in Elmore City....like go to jail illegal.
In 1980 a group of young students petitioned to have the ban lifted...and won...but just barely.
The results was the school's first ever prom.
